Woman Arrested for Vandalizing Independence Elementary School

A woman was arrested for vandalizing an elementary school in Independence over the weekend.

The Independence Police Department says a citizen reported damage and an open door to the Independence West Elementary School around 8:30 pm Friday.

Authorities arrived to find extensive damage inside the school, with no one inside. School officials reviewed the school surveillance system, with the recording showing one person creating all the damage.

The suspect was identified as 21-year old Autumn Meiborg. She was arrested in Independence late Friday night and charged with First Degree Burglary, First Degree Criminal Mischief and Trespass.

Meiborg is in the Buchanan County Jail on $30,000 bond.
