A Manchester man suffered minor injuries in an accident Saturday night.
The accident happened when the driver blacked out while his pickup truck approached the south end of the Petersburg blacktop near Old Highway 20. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says the truck drove off the end of the T-intersection and was airborne before landing in the ditch, hitting the railroad tracks and continuing southbound into a cornfield.
The driver, 61-year old David Klein, suffered minor injuries in the accident. Doctors say a medical issue may have led to his blackout.
He was charged with operating while intoxicated and failing to maintain control.
The cornfield, owned by Joe Wessels of Earlville, sustained around $1,000 in damage. The Sheriff’s Office also notified the railroad company of possible damage to the tracks.
