Arlene H. Wilhelm – Manchester

Arlene H. Wilhelm, 88, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.  She was born on August 23, 1931, in Petersburg, Iowa, the daughter of John and Frances (Bruggeman) Sudmeier. Arlene attended Petersburg Schools.

On June 5, 1950 Arlene was united in marriage to LeRoy Wilhelm at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, in Petersburg and was later divorced.  Twelve children were born to this union. The couple resided in Manchester. Arlene worked as a housewife, as a receptionist and a nurse’s aid for In Home Health Care.

Arlene enjoyed gambling, flowers, raising chickens and time with her family.  She was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester.

Arlene is survived by her children, David Wilhelm, of Manchester, Diane (Stephen) Wilhelm-Johnson,  of Port Washington, Wisconsin, Donna Lintern, of Homosassa, Florida, Mike (Rhonda)Wilhelm, of Manchester, Mary (Mike) Knipper of Dyersville, Tom (Jo) Wilhelm, of Manchester, Vicki (Brian) Rhenstrom of Marion, Steven Wilhelm of Bad Viebel, Germany, Ann (Rick) Pech  of Winthrop, Iowa; Kate (Dan) McNeal of Cedar Rapids, Phil (Molly) Wilhelm of Robins, and Gary Wilhelm, of Cedar Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Andrew Knipper; two brothers George Sudmeier, and Jim Sudmeier; and one sister Mary in infancy.

Mass of Christian Burial:10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, Iowa, with Reverend Gabriel Anderson officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa. Private family Scripture service at 3:30 p.m.  No visitation Friday morning

Interment: St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, Iowa
