The Class 4A ninth-ranked West Delaware Softball team improved their record to 4-0 with a doubleheader sweep of Independence last night at Sill Field. Game one saw the Hawks post their first shutout of the season 10-0 in 5 innings behind a 2-hit shutout by Macey Kleitsch with 6 strikeouts and no walks for her 2nd win of the season. Eight girls in the lineup had at least one hit and 7 with at least one run batted in. Game 2 went to the Hawks 9-4. Erin Mullen picked up win number 2 as well as she allowed 9 hits, struck out 2 and walked none. The Hawks offense tallied just 6 hits, 2 by Kleitsch including a grand slam. Alissa Holtz also had 2 hits. The Hawks took advantage of 6 walked and 3 hit batters from Independence pitching. The Mustangs dropped to 1-3.
WD will return to action tonight at home for a match-up of top ten ranked teams as Class 3A 5th-rated 3-1 Mount Vernon comes to town. Bill Logan will have the coverage live on KMCH and KMCH.com of game 2 around 7:45pm after game one from Exide Field of West Delaware Baseball with Jon Swisher starting at 5pm after the information report. The 1-1 Hawks Baseball team hosts 2-2 Independence.
