State Softball: Lynx to Defend 2A Crown

On semifinal day at the 2020 State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge yesterday the North Linn Lynx downed Northeast of Gooselake 10-1. North Linn improved their record to 25-0 with win number 31 in a row and advance back to the Class 2A championship game to defend their crown. After a slow start the Lynx offense came alive in the 3rd inning with 4 runs sparked by a 2-run homer by Grace Flanagan and a single shot by Natalie Gallery. It would be the first two of five home runs for North Linn. Eighth grader Skylar Benesh led off the fourth with one. Jenna Lemley had one scoring 2 in the 5th and Grace Flanagan added her second for 2 more runs in the 6th. The Lynx tallied 14 hits in all and only struck out once.

Abby Flanagan picked up her 17th win of the season inside the circle. She allowed 5 hits and fanned 8 Rebel batters.

North Linn will face Ogden Friday late afternoon at 5:00. Ogden the 3-seed upset the 2-seed Lousia-Muscatine.

In 3A:

Williamsburg pulled off the upset of Davenport Assumption 5-4 to get to their first ever title tilt Friday at 2:30. They will play Albia who avoided the upset by Mount Vernon winning 2-1.

In 1A, Lisbon fell to Clarksville 4-0.

At the State Baseball Tournament in Des Moines, 4A quarterfinals took place.

Urbandale, Johnston, Dubuque Hempstead and Ankeny all picked up W’s.

Tonight the 19-2 2nd-rated North Linn Lynx will compete in a 2A semifinal against Des Moines Christian at 7:30. It’ll be a rematch from last year’s semi’s in which the Lynx won in a close game.
