A staff member from the Independence Community School District has tested positive for COVID-19.
Independence Superintendent Russell Reiter announced the confirmed case on Wednesday afternoon.
The staff member who tested positive is at home recovering. The district is not releasing any other information about the staff member.
Reiter says the district is working with the Iowa Department of Public Health and Buchanan County Health. He says anyone who was in contact with the infected staff member will be contacted.
At this time, the Independence Community School District is preparing for the upcoming school year and Reiter says they’ll be following all CDC guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting before the buildings reopen.
The district also announced Wednesday afternoon that they were cancelling the Independence high school football camp for the rest of the week as a precautionary measure.
