A young woman from Earlville will spend the next year promoting dairy across Iowa.
Amber Engelken was crowned the Iowa Dairy Princess Alternate on Thursday afternoon at the annual competition in Ankeny.
Engelken is the 18-year old daughter of Tom and Cherrie Engelken of Earlville. She was in the competition representing the Iowa Holstein Association.
Eight young women from around the state were competing for the titles of Princess and Alternate. 20-year old Meghan Hettinga of Orange City, representing the Iowa Jersey Cattle Club, was crowned the 2020-21 Iowa Dairy Princess.
Both Hettinga and Engelken will receive scholarships from Midwest Dairy, which sponsors the contest and princess program on behalf of Iowa’s dairy farmers.
Their new reigns will begin September 1st.
