Betty Jean Knipper, 90, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa. She was born on September 25, 1929, in Delaware County, the daughter of Henry and Katie (Bowers) Martens. Betty was raised in Delaware County, where she attended elementary school in Delhi and graduated from Edgewood High School 1948.
On September 27, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Raymond Knipper. Four children were born to this union. After their marriage they lived in Cedar Rapids for two years and then moved outside of Littleport and began farming. They then moved to a farm near Edgewood, eventually moving to their farm east of Edgewood in 1963. In 1989, Betty and Raymond moved to town but still continued farming. Betty worked at the Shopping News in Edgewood for many years but always enjoyed working along side her husband on the farm.
Betty was a faithful member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She took pride in her home, loved to clean, doing word find books and loved to travel out west with her husband, Raymond. She cherished the time she spent with her family.
Survivors include three children, David (Ann) Knipper of Melcher-Dallas, Marilyn Sundermeyer of Edgewood, and Dennis (Annette) Knipper of Edgewood; 10 grandchildren, Steve (Amy) Knipper, Jr., Shane (fiancé Kat) Knipper, Peter Knipper, Nathan (Annie) Knipper, Sarah Schneider, Kerry (John) Schechtman, Taylor Sundermeyer, Zach Knipper, Cameron Knipper and Carson Knipper, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Martens of Strawberry Point; brothers and sisters-in-law, Morgan Hamer of Cedar Rapids, Eldon (Doris) Knipper of Arlington, Grace Knipper of Edgewood and Leonard (Grace) Knipper of Arlington and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in 1999; one son, Stephen Knipper; one granddaughter, Sharon Knipper; three sisters, Marie (Keith)Harbaugh, Doris (Earl) Lamb and Donna Belle in infancy; brothers and sisters-in law, Aloysious (Margaret) Knipper, Alfred Knipper, Germaine (Gilbert) Klaren and Jeanette Hamer.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood, with Reverend John Haugen officiating.
Visitation: 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August, 11, 2020, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood with a 7:30 p.m. scripture service. Friends may also call 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood.
Internment: St. Mark’s Cemetery – Edgewood, Iowa
