Cedar Rapids Native Starts Derecho Relief Effort

A Cedar Rapids native has started an effort to help his hometown recover from Monday’s derecho.

Raymond Siddell of Center Point wanted to help, so he set up the Iowa Derecho Storm Resource Page on Facebook.

The page is already up to over 22,000 members – made up of people wanting to help and people looking for help. Siddell says the city of Cedar Rapids is suffering and leaders have failed them.

In addition to setting up the Facebook page, Siddell says they also have physical location set up in southeast Cedar Rapids.

If you’re an able-bodied person, they would welcome your help – especially if you’re able to bring a chainsaw.

If you’re interested in volunteering or donating with this effort, you can call or text Raymond at 319-432-9754. Financial donations are also being accepted through Venmo at @iowaderecho or PayPal at info@derecho2020.com. Or you can just show up to volunteer or drop off donations or cash at their site at 4850 Armar Drive Southeast in Cedar Rapids at Keller Williams Legacy Group.

The storm relief site will be set up today (August 14th) from 8 am to 1 pm and 2:30 and 6:30 pm and Saturday (August 15th) from 8 am to 7 pm for volunteers, donation drop-off or anyone who needs help. All donations are first-come, first-serve.
