Linn County Continues to Work on Storm Clean-up

Linn County continues to work on storm clean-up – more than two weeks after the derecho struck Iowa.

Linn County has announced some changes to the self-haul organic storm debris drop-off sites for rural residents. As of yesterday, there are four locations for residents to drop off trees, brush and vegetation at no charge – Whittier Secondary Road Shop in Springville, the Mount Vernon Secondary Road Shop, the Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center in Toddville and the former Abbe home location on County Home Road. The sites are open daily from 7 am to 7 pm.

The County closed off two other sites to the public – Morgan Creek County Park and Dows Farm off Mount Vernon Road. They say those sites were seeing an influx of homeowners from cities and commercial haulers, which is not allowed according to FEMA reimbursement restrictions. These two sites are now used by Linn County’s contractor, Ceres Environmental Services, to dispose of tree debris they pick up in rural Linn County.

Any rural Linn County residents who are not able to dispose of their organic storm debris on their own may place it near their drive entrance for Linn County to remove.
