Happy Joe’s is returning to Cascade.
The town lost the restaurant and bowling alley in a fire last year, with the owners announcing earlier this year plans to build a similar business in Peosta rather than rebuilding in Cascade.
Meanwhile earlier this year, the City of Cascade applied for a Community Catalyst Remediation Grant to renovate the Corner Tap building downtown at 201 1st Avenue West. They recently found out they received the 100-thousand dollar grant, which will help assist the owner of the building with the project.
The project will involve renovating the two-story Corner Tap building, with three newly-renovated apartments on the upper level and businesses on the lower level.
Cascade City Administrator Deanna McCusker tells KMCH that Happy Joe’s will be located in the restaurant portion of the lower level of the building. John Lehmann, who runs the Happy Joe’s location in Dyersville, will run the new Cascade location as well. McCusker says they hope to open Happy Joe’s before the end of the year.
The owner is in conversations with a company for the other half of the lower level.
“The community is very excited for this project,” says McCusker. “It’s been wonderful to see the transformation of the building.”
