U.S. Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst made a rare appearance together in Edgewood on Friday morning – less than four weeks before the general election.
The pair toured Kendrick Forest Products, a division of Kendrick, Inc., and then held a 30-minute question and answer session with employees and invited guests.
Senator Grassley believes it was the first time the two shared a town hall meeting. And he says it was good to be back in Edgewood.
Both Senator Grassley and Senator Ernst serve on the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. Owner Rhonda Kendrick asked the Senators to attend so she could share her concerns about forestry management regarding the wildfires on the west coast.
Senator Grassley addressed Kendrick’s concern.
Both Senator Grassley and Senator Ernst answered several questions from the audience, including such topics as the Supreme Court nomination, struggles for small farms and their opinion on President Trump’s comments on a rigged election.
Kendrick says she appreciate the two Senators taking time to visit. The Edgewood company has been a popular destination in recent years for elected officials, including Governor Kim Reynolds. Kendrick says there’s no magic formula for getting these special guests to come to the small northeast Iowa town – she simply asks.
