Monticello Fills Vacant City Council Seat

The Monticello City Council has appointed someone to fill a vacant council seat.

Longtime resident Scott Brighton will step into the Ward One position. He fills the vacancy left by Gary Feldmann, who resigned this summer. Brighton was one of three people interested in serving, with the others including Tom Osbourne and Birdsie Robinson.

Brighton’s appointment was passed by the City Council on a 4-1 vote. He was sworn in at Monday night’s meeting to begin his term immediately. Unless Monticello residents call for a special election within the two weeks of his appointment, Brighton will serve until the term expires at the end of next year.
