The Delhi Fire Department Dive Team helped recover a car from the Mississippi River near Marquette on Thursday.
The vehicle was first discovered in 2017 by a local fisherman. Over the next three years, the river levels and environmental restrictions prevented crews from pulling the car from the river. But with the river levels now low and stable, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and Mar-Mac Police Department were able to coordinate with the Delhi dive team and Tegeler Wrecker & Crane to recover the vehicle.
The car was successfully pulled from the river and has been identified as a yellow 1985 Lincoln Town that was last registered in 2007 through the state of Wisconsin. Crews didn’t find any suspicious items inside the vehicle.
Authorities say the investigation remains open in an effort to determine how and why the vehicle ended up in the river.
