Lambert Elementary in Manchester was evacuated on Friday morning due to a smoke situation.
West Delaware Superintendent Dr. Kristen Rickey says the situation was in the kindergarten wing where an air handler began smoking, which triggered the fire alarms. Students in both Lambert and the Middle School were evacuated outside, with kindergarten and preschool students temporarily relocated to the Delaware County Fairgrounds Pavilion.
The Manchester Fire Department took care of the situation, cleared the area of smoke and gave the school the all-clear to return to classes. Manchester Police also responded to the school.
Rickey says their safety protocols worked exactly as planned. All students remained safe throughout the situation and classes were back in session for the rest of the day.
