One of Dyersville’s oldest buildings is getting a makeover.
The old Tegeler Dairy has sat next to the river on 3rd Avenue since it was built in the late 1800’s. A pair of developers purchased the building and plan to turn it into three spacious and unique apartments, along with commercial and riverfront space to lease. Dyersville Economic Development Director Jacque Rahe says they’d been looking for an opportunity to do some fun and positive with that building in recent years.
And who purchased the building? One of the actors from the movie “Field of Dreams”. Dwier Brown, who played Kevin Costner’s dad in that famous final scene of the film, is the building’s new owner, along with his development partner, David Feigin.
And the icing on the cake was a $100,000 grant from the state’s Community Catalyst Building Remediation Program to help with the renovation. Rahe says this was hands down one of the highest scoring grant applications because of all the economic activity this project could bring to Dyersville.
Work on the old Tegeler Dairy building is slated to start this fall.
