Students Cast Ballots in Iowa Youth Straw Poll

Thousands of students cast ballots in the Iowa Youth Straw Poll yesterday.

They voted for their preferred candidates in the U.S. Presidential race, along with Iowa’s U.S. Senate and House races.

As of Tuesday night with more 27,000 votes cast, Donald Trump led the presidential race 57 to 31 percent over Joe Biden. Kayne West came in third at 9%.

Joni Ernst led Theresa Greenfield in the U.S. Senate race 55 to 36 percent.

And in the Congressional races, Republicans led early in all four districts, with Ashley Hinson ahead of Abby Finkenauer 56 to 45 percent.

More results are expected to come in today.

The 2016 Iowa Youth Straw Poll showed Donald Trump defeating Hillary Clinton by 10 points and reflected the winner of actual election results in every Iowa congressional race but one.

More than 250 schools signed up to participate this year, including West Delaware High School, Middle School and Lambert Elementary, as well as Ed-Co Elementary, East Buchanan, Starmont,  Monticello Middle School and Anamosa High School.
