Camp Courageous Dedicating New Mainliner Memorial Park

Camp Courageous will be dedicating the new Mainliner Memorial Park on Saturday.

Located inside the train loop next to the Durgin Pavilion at Lake Todd, the park stands as a memorial to all those who have or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces, as well as all the heroes on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Teri Connell and her husband, Brian, from Lake Delhi, wanted to help fund a project at the Camp that would stand as a dedication and memorial to their parents’ legacy and to all who have served.

Connell says the park is named Mainliner Memorial Park in honor of her dad, who after retiring from railroading, opened a place called the Mainliner, where railroad guys would gather for food and drinks. She says the new park has several special features.

In the center of the new park, there’s a brick courtyard with a bronze statue of a little girl in a wheelchair with her hand over her heart.

Connell says the brick courtyard is lined with pavers, where veterans and others can be recognized.

For more information on recognizing a veteran, email Charlie Becker at cbecker@campcourageous.org.

Connell says she appreciates the support of everyone who helped make this park a reality. Saturday’s dedication will begin at noon at the new Mainliner Memorial Park at Camp Courageous. A video of the dedication will also be shared on the Camp Courageous Facebook page on Veterans Day.
