With the recent surge in COVID-19 cases across the state, the demand for convalescent plasma is outpacing donations.
Regional Medical Center in Manchester is asking anyone who has fully recovered from a verified COVID-19 diagnosis to help them with this effort. The plasma in the blood of those who have recovered from COVID may contain COVID-19 antibodies that can attack the virus. This convalescent plasma is being used as treatment for patients who are currently sick with COVID. Health officials say this means you could help save the lives of patients fighting COVID.
There are several criteria to donate plasma:
- You must have a prior verified COVID-19 diagnosis.
- You must be fully recovered from the virus and symptom-free for at least 14 days.
- You must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Additional weight requirements apply for donors age 18 or younger.
- You must be in good health.
If you think you meet the criteria, visit the American Red Cross website to sign up to donate your plasma.
