1,500 shoeboxes were filled with small gifts as part of Manchester United Methodist Church’s efforts to help the Operation Christmas Child program this year.
The church serves as the program’s Delaware County drop-off location. Shoeboxes were brought to them by residents and churches from as far away as Guttenberg, Cascade and Central City.
The shoeboxes were filled with items like school supplies, toothbrushes, socks, toys and personal notes and will be distributed to children in need throughout the world.
Coordinator Stephanie Stocks says while they didn’t reach their goal of collecting 2,020 shoeboxes this year, the ministry has certainly grown locally.
It’s not too late to support Operation Christmas Child. Boxes can still be built online by visiting the Operation Christmas Child website. Just $25 covers the cost of the gifts to go in a box, as well as the shipping cost.
