Driver Arrested after High-Speed Pursuit in Linn and Jones Counties

A driver was arrested after a high-speed pursuit through Linn and Jones counties on Tuesday night.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried initiating a traffic stop in Central City for a vehicle that was going 65 miles per hour in a 20 mile per hour zone at 4th Street North and Commercial Street. But the vehicle didn’t stop, leading deputies on a pursuit.

The pursuit continued northbound on Highway 13 from Central City, reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour. The vehicle then headed east on D-62 into Jones County, reaching speeds of 85 miles per hour as the pursuit entered Jones County.

A Monticello police officer was able to deploy a tire deflation device at D-62 and Stone Bridge Road, deflating the vehicle’s two front tires. The driver pulled over a short distance later.

The driver, 37-year old Hunter Campbell of Lisbon, was arrested and transported to the Linn County Jail on charges of Eluding, OWI 3rd Offense, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Prescription Drugs, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Carrying Weapons and multiple traffic offenses.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Monticello Police, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
