The Independence Community School District is making renovation plans for its elementary buildings.
Superintendent Russell Reiter says the district is looking at two projects.
The first project is a small renovation to East Elementary, with a new nurse’s office and renovations to a book room, counselor’s office, front office, art room and teacher’s lounge.
The second project involves a five classroom addition onto West Elementary for their 6th graders. The plan to remove the old metal structure west of the building and renovate the current structure to house the band room, art room, special ed rooms and restrooms.
The projected costs for the two projects is around four million dollars. Bids will be expected around the middle of January.
Reiter says they hope to begin work this spring and complete everything by the start of next school year.
