Area Legislators Ready for Start of Iowa Legislative Session

The Iowa legislative session begins today in Des Moines.

Legislators are hoping for a session that is uninterrupted this year – last year’s session was shut down mid-way through in March due to COVID, with the legislature reconvening for two weeks in June.

And Republican State Senator Dan Zumbach of Ryan tells KMCH this legislative session will look a little different too.

Zumbach says he’s ready to get back to work.

He feels the budget will be a top priority for the legislature as a whole.

Republican State Representative Lee Hein of Monticello says the budget is always his number one priority.

And he says there are probably some bills they’ll look at that they didn’t get a chance to look at last year.

And Hein will be serving in a leadership role again this year.

Both Zumbach and Hein encourage their constituents to contact them with their concerns. You can hear weekly legislative updates from each of them, along with State Senator Carrie Koelker, on Fridays during the noon hour here on KMCH.
