You’ll have a chance to tour the new Delaware County Jail and Sheriff’s Office this weekend.
An open house will be held this Friday and Saturday from 10 to 6. Masks would be appreciated.
The new facility is located on the far west end of Manchester north of Walmart on West Howard Street. The new 19,000 square foot facility includes a 42-bed jail with the ability to expand to 28 more beds, as well as administrative offices, a kitchen and support areas.
Voters approved a $5.9 million bond issue for the new jail two years ago. The new facility will provide more space and also meet all safety and security requirements by the state jail inspector – something the current 54-year old jail that sits next to the courthouse hasn’t been able to do for several years.
The site broke ground last March, with finishing touches being done this week. The Sheriff’s Office is expected to move in next week, with inmates being transferred to the new jail next week as well.
Delaware County Supervisor Jeff Madlom will join us as our “Guest of the Day” later this week to tell us more about it – tune in Friday at 8:10 am right here on KMCH.
