All three of our area teams playing yesterday in the Boys State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines had their seasons come to an end. In a Class 2A first round match, Des Moines Christian topped Beckman 58-38. Jack Gehling led the way for the Blazers with 11 points; Jacob Hermsen had 8; 7 for Logan Goedken; 6 for Mason White, and 3 apiece for Logan Burchard and Padrig Gallegher . The Blazers end the season at 16 and 8 and say goodbye to 5 seniors: Gehling, Hermsen, White, Nathan Schaefer and Sam Oberbroeckling.
The day’s other 2A Quarter-final saw Hull Western Christian beat Camanche 71-55.
In Class 3A Quarter-final action: Ballard handled Clear Lake 68-45; Davenport Assumption, topped Dallas Center-Grimes 56-42.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton needed overtime to edge Western Dubuque 38-37. The Bobcats were led in scoring by Andrew Oltmanns with 14; Dylan Johnson with 13; Tommy DeSollar with 4; 3 for Garrett Baumhover; 2 for Carson Schute; and 1 for Nick Bryant. Western Dubuque went 18 and 5 and say goodbye to 6 seniors: Baumhover, DeSollar, Johnson, Jaden Siegert, Will Griner, and Isaac Lenstra.
Monticello never led but stayed close most of the way in a 59-46 loss to Pella in the final game of the night. Justin Recker scored 18 for the Panthers; Preston Ries had 9; Connor Lambert and Ty Kehoe dumped in 8 apiece; Luke Lambert contributed 3 points. The Panthers will lose 7 seniors – Recker, Kehoe, Luke and Connor Lambert; Riley Manternach; Jasper Nietert; and Graham Schneiter. The Panthers end the season 22 and 1.
4A Quarter-finals take the stage today, then it’s 1A Semi-finals tonight as undefeated top seed North Linn takes on Martensdale-St. Mary’s at 6pm – we will have that game for you live tonight on KMCH at about 5:50. The other 1A semi will pit Grand View Christian vs. Montezuma.
