A Dubuque County Sheriff’s Deputy patrol vehicle was struck during a pursuit early Monday morning.
The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says deputies tried stopping a vehicle on Highway 61 for speeding, but the vehicle didn’t stop and a pursuit ensued as the vehicle entered Dubuque.
Dubuque Police tried placing stopsticks in the area of Highway 61 and Jones Street, but the vehicle stopped before hitting the stopsticks and tried to back up to go around them. In doing so, the vehicle hit a pursuing deputy’s patrol vehicle at low speeds, causing about six thousand dollars in damage.
Authorities arrested the driver, 19-year old Kaylan Simmons of Blue Grass, on several charges, including Eluding, Speeding and Driving Under Suspension.
