Red Flag Warning Issued for Extreme Fire Conditions

With today’s warm winds, there is an extreme fire risk today.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon to 8 pm for extreme fire conditions across portions of eastern Iowa, including Delaware, Dubuque, Buchanan, Jones and Linn counties.

Winds are shifting to the south today at 20 to 40 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. And with relative humidity as low as 23 percent and temperatures reaching around 70, the risk for fire conditions is extremely high.

The National Weather Service says fires will easily and quickly get out of control and spread rapidly, so outdoor burning is not recommended today.

Clayton and Fayette counties are not included in the Red Flag Warning, but those two counties are under a Wind Advisory today.
