Manchester Farmer Charged after Stealing Feed in Cattle Operation

A Manchester farmer has been charged with theft after stealing from a fellow farmer.

59-year old Curtis Maurer was arrested March 17th. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says they conducted an investigation into the theft of grain and protein from a farming operation run by Maurer. The Sheriff’s Office says Maurer operated a custom cattle feeding operation at two different sites in Delaware County. The cattle at these sites were owned by Kenneth Moellers of Cresco. Moellers provided DDG protein to Maurer to feed the cattle.

However, authorities say Maurer used excess feed provided by Moellers to feed his own cattle. The theft occurred for over a year, from October 2019 through December 2020. The amount of feed stolen totaled over $10,000.

Maurer was taken into custody and charged with First Degree Theft. He was released from jail after posting bond.
