A popular event held annually at the Field of Dreams Movie Site in Dyersville won’t be taking place this year.
Team of Dreams has been cancelled for 2021.
The event, which brings in celebrities and former baseball players, gives the public a chance to get autographs and watch a celebrity softball game. But officials say they’re cancelling this year’s event due to concerns over portions of the event that have been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Keith Rahe, President and CEO of Travel Dubuque, says understandably, many of the players, talent and entertainment they bring in for Team of Dreams are holding off booking events like theirs over concerns of the ongoing pandemic.
Team of Dreams is anticipated to be held again in 2022, with dates to be announced next year.
However, Rahe says there are things they can do safely and responsibly to allow people to enjoy the rich baseball traditions in the area. One of those includes hosting Beyond the Game this August, surrounding the excitement of this summer’s Major League Baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees at the Field of Dreams Movie Site. A line-up for events will take place August 11th and 12th in Dyersville and throughout Dubuque County, including a movie night and outdoor concert. Beyond the Game is being planned with input from area health professionals and leaders to develop a COVID conscious environment.
