Suspect Charged in Sgt. Smith’s Death Booked into Jail

The man charged in Sgt. Jim Smith’s death has been booked into jail.

41-year old Michael Lang of Grundy Center was released by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Wednesday and transported to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, where he made his initial appearance.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says Smith was shot during an attempt to arrest Lang, who was barricaded in his home on Friday night, April 9th.

Lang faces several charges, including First Degree Murder, Attempt to Commit Murder and Assault On A Peace Officer.

He is now in the Black Hawk County Jail, where he is being held on a three million dollars cash bond.
