A new wind farm is breaking ground in Delaware County.
That’s Kevin Lehs with RPM Access based in De Soto, Iowa. He says it’s called the Independence Wind Farm and it’s going up just southwest of Manchester.
Construction on the substation started last year and crews have been reporting each day to an area just west of Ryan.
And the wind turbines will start arriving later this summer.
Lehs says that’s pretty similar to the wind turbines near Greeley – but with a slightly larger turbine at 2.82 megawatts. CIPCO (Central Iowa Power Cooperative) based in Marion has an agreement to purchase the power that these wind turbines will produce – that’s the same company that bought the energy from Elk Wind.
He says it was that Elk Wind project near Greeley that brought RPM Access back to Delaware County.
They’re hoping to have the new Independence Wind Farm up and running southwest of Manchester by November.
