Two Downtown Manchester Businesses Affected by Alley Fire

Two downtown Manchester businesses are temporarily closed after a fire broke out in their alley on Saturday afternoon.

It happened in the 100 block of North Franklin Street around 1 pm. Manchester Fire Chief Mike Ryan says the fire started in the base of the exterior wall between the buildings of Aunt Emmy’s and April’s Downtown Diner.

Ryan says both businesses had some smoke damage, along with damage to their rear exterior walls. Electricity was restored to both buildings, but the gas meters were destroyed, so the businesses are waiting for those to get replaced.

Aunt Emmy’s tells KMCH they don’t have any inside damage to their building. They’re hoping to reopen Wednesday or Thursday. April’s Downtown Diner is also closed at this time.

Ryan says they’re not sure what caused the fire.
