Prosecutors say the Linn County deputy who responded to a robbery in Coggon on Sunday night was shot in the hip and leg.
A criminal complaint released this week says Deputy William Halverson was wearing a protective vest.
Deputy Halverson was responding to an armed robbery in progress at Caseys General Store. Prosecutors say Stanley Donahue of Chicago robbed two employees at gunpoint and confined them in a cooler – and after firing ten shots at Deputy Halverson, Donahue allegedly stole Halverson’s service weapon and fled. He was taken into custody the following day.
Halverson remains hospitalized at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. His family said in a Facebook post that he was transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit on Tuesday.
