HS SPORTS: Weekend Recap/State Baseball Preview

The Iowa High School Football Shrine Bowl returned to the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Saturday afternoon. The all-star game features the best senior high school football players to benefit The Shriners Hospital for Children. A 52-24 win by the North team which was led by two future Iowa Hawkeyes in OABGIC’s Cooper DeJean and Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Max White. The victorious squad also featured six coverage area athletes; Carson Petlon of West Delaware, Parker Rochford of Ed-Co, Tyler Luensman of Monticello, Koby Beatty of Independence, Connor Andresen of Anamosa and Trent Koelker of Beckman. One of the assistant coaches of the team was Independence Head Coach Justin Putz. Luensman had an interception right before half and Rochford caught a 52-yard touchdown pass from DeJean.

In Softball, Iowa Girls Coaches Association Senior All-Star games took place at Waukee High School Saturday night. West Delaware’s Mia Peyton and Head Coach Tiffany Rave were a part of the Blue Team. Anamosa’s Grace Lubben was on the White Team.

The 2021 State Baseball Tournament for Class 1A schools begins today in Carroll inside Merchants Park.

4:30—#2 St. Albert, Council Bluffs vs. #7 Lisbon
