Briggs Pleads Guilty to Lesser Charge in RMC Theft

A former hospital official accused of stealing from Regional Medical Center in Manchester was sentenced on Tuesday in Delaware County District Court.

Mike Briggs pleaded guilty to an aggravated misdemeanor of Accessory After The Fact.

Briggs, of Manchester, is the former System Fund Development Director at RMC. He and former CEO Lon Butikofer were charged with First Degree Theft two years ago. The State Auditor’s Office discovered that from 2009 to 2017, they had accumulated over $256,000 in expenses for personal trips they claimed were for hospital business.

Briggs received a suspended sentence of two years in prison. He was also ordered to pay victim restitution (to be determined at a later date) and will be on probation for two years.

On Wednesday, we had incorrectly reported that Briggs was convicted of First Degree Theft. We apologize for the error.
