Judge Approves Class Action Lawsuit Against Former Coach from Monticello

A federal judge has approved a class action lawsuit filed by a former player against a former coach from Monticello.

44-year old Greg Stephen was sentenced to 180 years in federal prison two years ago. He pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count each of possession of child pornography and transportation of child pornography.

Stephen admitted to possessing nude photos and videos of 400 boys, including former players and their friends. The lawsuit accuses Stephen of intruding on the privacy of more than 400 boys by secretly or deceptively recording them undressing, showering and performing sexually explicit acts from 2005 to 2018.

In addition to suing Stephen, the former player is suing the Barnstormers, the team sponsor Adidas and the Amateur Athletic Union.

The judge ruled this week that all present and former members of the Iowa Barnstormers youth basketball program can join the lawsuit.

The civil trial is scheduled for January 10th in U.S. District Court in Davenport.
