Authorities have released more information about the accident that injured one person on Highway 20 west of Manchester on Monday morning.
The Iowa State Patrol says 45-year old Chad Taylor of Traer was eastbound on Highway 20 around 6:15 am when his van struck a deer. His van became disabled, with the vehicle still mostly on the highway with its emergency flashers activated.
The State Patrol says Taylor got out of his van and was standing in the south ditch when an eastbound van approached – failing to change lanes or slow down – and collided with the back of Taylor’s disabled van.
The State Patrol says the driver of the second van, 37-year old Randy Greene of Waterloo, suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from his vehicle by mechanical means. He was transported to Regional Medical Center in Manchester.
Greene has been charged with Unsafe Approach/Failure to Slow Down Upon Approaching and Use of Electronic Communication Device.
Taylor was not hurt in either accident.
