MPL: Visit from Author Daniel Henderson
Iowa author Daniel Henderson will be visiting and discussing his book, “Rhythm & Pep: The Vaudeville Career of the Pearson Brothers”, at the Manchester Public Library, on Monday, April 27th at 5:30 pm. Books will be on sale for $15 (signed) for one, $25 for two and $30 for three.
About the book:
It is a true story of two Iowa coal miners who had a dream. They came out of their father’s coal mines near Clarinda, Iowa, and became famous vaudeville stars in the 1920’s. Their acrobatic dance routine took them to the top of Broadway entertainment at the Palace Theatre. It is an engaging, and both sad and victorious, story.
About the author:
Daniel Henderson is a lifelong Iowa resident, currently living in Washington, Iowa. He taught history in high schools from Omaha to Des Moines to near Iowa City. As a retired teacher, he still teaches a class in American History at a local Community College. Henderson has authored three other books, including an extensive family history volume called, A Henderson History: A Tall Tree with Deep Roots. It was a book he wanted to leave as a legacy to his two children and four grandchildren. That book, along with the current book, provides a rich history and family legacy. He grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, near many of the locations mentioned in the book. He is the grandson of Irene Pearson-Henderson, who was the sister of Earl and Carl Pearson. In 2015, he inherited the scrapbook kept by Earl Pearson. It had been passed on to various family members until Daniel received it. Daniel holds a master’s degree in educational administration and a bachelor’s degree in social science and history. Most recently, he has worked on a public history graduate program at the University of Northern Iowa.
Stop at the Manchester Public Library, on Wednesday, April 27th at 5:30 pm to hear about this interesting book and author! A book is available to reserve at the library after the event if you are not interested in purchasing one of your own.
