Colesburg Fifth Grader Wins Flag Essay Contest

The Manchester Sons of the American Legion recently hosted an essay contest, asking area students what the flag means to them. Elizabeth Wessel of Colesburg Elementary was named the overall winner. Here are a few words from her essay…

Fellow classmates Meliah Eiben and Carson Knipper will join Wessel in advancing on to the district contest with their essays.

Colesburg Elementary’s Cameron Kirby, Hunter Thompsen and Brian Bowman were among those recognized with prizes for their essays. Kirby and Bowman say the essays gave them a lot to think about.

Flag Essay 4

Several students from St. Mary’s were also honored for their essays. Mikaila Neuzil, Anna Werner and Laney Demmer will move on to the district contest, with Eva Winn and Regan Recker winning prizes. The state winner will read their essay at the American Legion state convention this year.
