Delaware County Supervisors Meeting Recap

The Delaware County Board of Supervisors met Monday, holding a public hearing on a construction permit application for Mormann Dairy, Inc. south of Colesburg.

Mormann Dairy plans to add four new milking robots to their dairy facility, as well as a nine-foot alley on each side of their current building. The addition will mean an increase of 280 animal units.

The County Board of Supervisors say they were impressed by their visit to Mormann Dairy’s farm. They have agreed to send a letter of recommendation to the DNR.

In other Delaware County Supervisors news…

The County acknowledged receipt of the treasurer’s affirmation of abatement of taxes on three parcels for New Start Lender LLC in Hopkinton. In November of 2019, the Board approved a resolution stating that as long as New Start Lender kept taxes current for three years – which they have done – the County would abate back the taxes.

The Delaware County Board of Supervisors also approved several changes on county roads (see photos below):

  • County Engineer Anthony Bardgett says the speed limit on 195th Street, also known as Quaker Mill Drive, has a discrepancy – one lane is posted at 35 miles per hour, while the other is posted at 35 and 25 miles per hour. They’ll change the speed limit to 45 miles per hour from the east point of the 35 mile per hour zone to the west city limits of Manchester at the intersection of 195th Street and West Honey Creek Drive. On 195th Street, a 35 mile per hour zone will be set from the intersection of 162nd Avenue and 195th Street to a point about 1,500 feet east of the intersection.
  • The County is also adding a stop sign to the dead-end road at Windmill Road east of 330th Avenue.
  • And the new Dyersville interchange that was put in a few years ago is changing a stop sign set-up at a gravel road intersection southwest of town. The new interchange closed the north end of 320th Avenue, which used to intersect with Highway 20. Now that the road is a dead-end, it’s no longer considered a “thru road”, so the County will install stop signs on 320th at the intersection of 225th Street. In turn, the stop signs currently at that intersection on 225th Street will be removed as 225th will now be considered the “thru road”.

And Delaware County Supervisors also approved several staff changes at their meeting on Monday:

  • Brittany Ries has been hired as a Deputy with the Auditor’s Office – she’ll begin April 18th at $42,000 a year.
  • Deanne Sullivan has been hired as a full-time employee with the Community Life Department – she’ll begin April 22nd at $15 per hour.
  • Ben Petlon and Connor Turnis have been hired as part-time seasonal help for the Secondary Roads Department – they’ll begin at $15 per hour.
  • And John Burbridge has submitted his resignation as a full-time jailer with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office – his last day will be Thursday.
