Delaware County Suicide Prevention Coalition Showing Documentary “My Ascension”

The Delaware County Suicide Prevention Coalition will be offering a free showing of the documentary “My Ascension” at Castle Theater in Manchester on Sunday, March 3rd at 5 pm. A live Q&A session with survivor Emma Bennoit, whom the film is about, will follow.

“My Ascension” is a feature length documentary that chronicles Emma’s inspiring journey and quest to walk again, as she works to bring Hope Squad, a school-based suicide prevention program, to Louisiana. The film also highlights the stories of two remarkable young people who tragically did not survive their attempts, and we learn first-hand from their families, friends, school officials and suicide prevention experts about the devastating effects of suicide. Despite the heaviness of the topic, this documentary brings awareness and hope.

It is a free will offering opportunity, with any funds raised supporting future events and awareness activities of the Delaware County Suicide Prevention Coalition. Concessions will also be available for purchase.

Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to attend with your youth as this covers sensitive information. Trained service providers will be available before, during and after each showing to talk with anyone who may need someone to talk to or would like to get more involved in the Coalition.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available. If you are interested in being a sponsor for this event, please email Jessica at [email protected]. All proceeds support local efforts for prevention and awareness.

If you are in need of immediate assistance or help, please contact Your Life Iowa. Your Life Iowa provides free information and referral, counseling, crisis service coordination, and linkages to crisis screening and mental health services 24 hours a day. CALL (855) 581-8111 or TEXT (855) 895-8398. Delaware County Suicide Prevention Coalition’s vision is to create a healthier community by eliminating suicides and connecting community members, especially teens to services available to them.

The coalition launched in August 2021 and is open to more people being a part. Those interested in learning more or being a part of the coalition may contact Jessica Pape at 563-920-9206 or [email protected]. They meet monthly and have events planned throughout the year.
