HS Boys Basketball: Squires Resigns From Beckman

Beckman High School is currently looking for a new head boy’s basketball coach. Iowa Boys Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Famer Jim Squires has retired for the second time in four years. Squires who was a head coach for just two schools in 44 seasons was just the fourth head coach in Blazer program history in 51 years since the school opened in 1966. The Oelwein native spent his first 42 years, before retiring in 2013, at Bellevue Marquette. Taking 8 teams to the state tournament from 1993 to 2006. Coming out of his first retirement in 2015, he guided Beckman the last two seasons compiling a 33-14 mark with a substate and district final loss to Cascade both years. Squires overall career record now sits at 686-297, putting him fourth on the all-time win list in Iowa boys basketball. Beckman was 17-6 this past season and graduate 4 seniors.
