HS CROSS COUNTRY: State Meet Preview

The 2017 High School Cross Country State Meet will take place this Saturday at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. The running gets underway at 11am with the 4A girls followed by the 4A boys at 11:30am.

In the other classes featuring area coverage schools:

Girls’ 3A at Noon-

Anamosa; Dakota Bierer, Claire Duncan,  Emma Duncan, Maddy Heims, Natalie Hersom, Liz Riniker and Lily Rogers

12:30 p.m. Boys’ 3A-

No area coverage runners.

1:00 p.m. Girls’ 2A-

Cascade will have Skylar Dolphin,Madison Kelchen, Marie Knepper, Shannon Morris, Emma Ostwinkle, Madeline Rhomberg and Rachel Rhomberg.

Monticello has Paige Holub, Lauren Lambert, Rachel Larabee, Taylor McDonald, Jordyn Patterson, Emily Schlarmann and Gabrielle Steiner

1:30 p.m. Boys’ 2A-

Monticello has Ben Barnhart, Zach Chapman, Cole Cruise, Aaron Loes,                Jasper Nietert, Ryan Oswald and David Titman.

2:00 p.m. Girls’ 1A-

North Linn is represented by sophomore Hannah Bridgewater.

Starmont has senior Bianca Malone.

2:30 p.m. Boys’ 1A-

Starmont’s team is; Christopher Baumgartner, Colt Gilso, Mitchell Hayes, Tyler Lynde, Graham Schuchmann, Carson Willie and Caleb Wittman.

Monticello head coach Dan Sauser is the recipient of the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union’s Golden Plaque of Distinction Award that he will receive Saturday afternoon in a presentation during the Class 2A awards ceremony. The IGHSAU’s Golden Plaque of Distinction Award honors the Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community and the coaching profession. Sauser has been the head coach for both the girls and boys cross country teams at Monticello since 2004. During his coaching tenure, his teams have won 19 conference championships. They have won four boys class 2A state cross country championships and the Panther girls have won two Class 2A state titles. In addition to the six titles, Sauser’s teams have three state runner-up finishes, three third place finishes and 17 of his 21 state qualifying teams have placed in the top five. Coach Sauser has collected numerous coaching honors throughout his coaching career. He has been named the IATC State Coach of the Year six times and the northeast Iowa Coach of the Year nine times. Dan is a graduate of the University of Iowa and teaches mathematics at Monticello High School and Kirkwood’s Jones Regional Educational Center.
