The ninth week of the high school football season brings nervous excitement for some teams around the state with the uncertainty of making this years playoff field. One of those program’s is Class 1A Maquoketa Valley, the Wildcats and their opponent 9th-rated Bellevue are both 7-1 and 5-1 in district 3 play tied for 2nd place behind the district champion West Branch. The winner earns the 2nd slot and a guaranteed playoff spot, the loser would wait for a possible wild card selection. MV has been led by consistent play from the skilled positions despite some injury adversity in the middle of the season, second-year head coach Chris Evers gives great credit to the linemen who have shown the most improvement and are a big reason for the teams success:

Bellevue won last years meeting in Delhi 41-14. The Wildcats are trying to get back to the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons, after missing last year and for the 12th time in program history since 1988.
