HS FOOTBALL: Week 9 Preview

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:
The ninth and final week of the high school football regular season takes place Friday night. Four teams in the KMCH coverage area have a chance to make the playoffs that begin next Friday night.
6-2/5-1 West Delaware needs to win over 0-8/0-6 Maquoketa at Brown Field to assure them the Class 3A district 4 championship as Marion fell to Davenport Assumption last night 49-21.  Hawks head coach Doug Winkowitsch talks about the mindset of his team coming off of their first district loss last week at Marion and the task of playing a win less team to end the regular season:
All the coverage live on KMCH and KMCH.com starting with the WD Football pregame show around 6:45pm as Sports Director Jon Swisher is joined by Coach Wink then Jamie, Aaron and Bill will take it.
East Buchanan has the second spot in Class A district 4 wrapped up behind Wapsie Valley who they lost to in week 4, 14-13 in overtime. The Bucs head to Starmont for their final district game.
Cascade can still win Class 2A district 4 with a victory against Union in Cascade.
Maquoketa Valley needs a win at Bellevue to secure a guaranteed spot with a 2nd place finish in Class 1A district 3. A loss would have the Wildcats in waiting mode with hopes of a wild card selection.
Playoff qualifiers will be announced on the Iowa High School Athletic Association website by midnight Friday with the bracket pairings being posted on the site by 2am Saturday morning. The top teams winning district championships will host in first round play with a majority of the second place and wild card teams traveling.
