In high school boys golf sectional results from Friday:
West Delaware was the winner in Decorah with a 329 score, Charles City was 2nd with a 354. Hawks sophomore Gavin Soppe shot an 80. Third place was senior Trent Shaw with a 81, tied for fourth were senior Derik Foster and freshman Brandon Larsen with an 84. West Delaware will host districts this Friday at Pin Oak.
In Maquoketa, Anamosa’s Cole Sander qualified individually by carding an 80.
In Guttenberg, Clayton Ridge and Beckman both advanced on with scores of 351 and 352. Senior Jake Jensen of Clayton Ridge was the medalist with a 76, Cascade junior Race Cuckler was the medalist runner-up with a 77.
Near Winthrop, East Buchanan placed first with a 304, Alburnett a 354 and Starmont a 355 all qualified for districts this Thursday. Chris Cooksley from East Buchanan with a 68 was the medalist, Jacob Hesner with a 70 was the medalist runner-up. Third place was Starmont’s Jacob Brown with a 76, fourth place was senior Sumner Smith of Central Elkader with a 80, also fourth was Alburnett junior Max Melander. Ed-Co sophomore Ethan Streicher shot an 82 to qualify as well.
Today girls teams hit the links for postseason play with first round regional meets around the state in class 1A, 2A and 3A. The top teams and individuals will advance to regional final meets next Monday.
In 3A, region 3B takes place near Manchester at Pin Oak. West Delaware will host Beckman, Cascade and Monticello. Region 4A in Clinton has Anamosa.
In 2A, region 4 near Fairbank features Maquoketa Valley. North Linn plays in region 3B in Nashua.
In 1A, Starmont hosts at the Backbone Country Club. Central Elkader, Ed-Co and East Buchanan will also be there.
