West Delaware High School Senior Maleah Georgen signed a letter of intent yesterday afternoon to play Softball at Division III Luther College in Decorah. As a Junior for the Hawks last season on a team that went 31-11, winning a share of the WaMaC conference East Division title and reaching a Regional Final, Georgen was one of the top hitters on the team with a .370 batting average. She led the squad in five offensive categories with a slugging percentage of .519, 50 hits, 3 home runs and 39 runs batted in during 135 times at bat. The Luther Softball program finished last season as the 10th-ranked team in the country as the Norse have now been ranked in the Top-25 for 39 consecutive weeks and 99 of the last 102 weeks dating back to 2009. During the 2016 campaign, Luther was 40-5 and captured its fifth Iowa Conference Tournament and advanced to the NCAA III National Tournament for an eighth consecutive year, ninth time in the past 10 years, and 17th time in school history. The Norse claimed the title of the Decorah Regional, the eighth time they have been crowned regional champions in school history. The signing took place in the Commons of WDHS, along with Georgen were her parents John and Stephanie, family, friends, teammates and Hawks head coach Tiffany Rave.
