HS Wrestling; State Duals Start This Morning

The 2014 high school wrestling State Team Duals get underway this morning inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.  The 24 teams in this year’s three-class tournament include 10 schools who have won a combined 34 state dual team titles.
Defending champions Alburnett, Assumption, Davenport and Southeast Polk are each in the power-packed field. Assumption is seeking a fourth straight championship to increase their total to eight.
Twenty-three of the 24 teams have made State Dual Team appearances with this winter being the first for Albia in Class 2A. Fourteen of the 24 were in last year’s tournament.

We’ll have Independence Mustang coverage from KMCH Sports live on KMCH and KMCH.com starting at 11am when class 2A teams take to the mats. Indee has a record of 25-4, they are making their 6th appearance, first since 2009. The Mustangs were State Dual Team Tourney champions in 1997. The Mustangs were given the 6th seed going up against the 3rd seeded, Albia who enters with a mark of 33-3. The Semis and Consy semis will be at 1pm; 5th and 7th place matches at 4:30 p.m.; 1st-3rd place matches at 6:30 p.m.
