HS Wrestling: West Delaware Sweeps WaMaC Double Dual

It was the opening night of WaMaC competition for the West Delaware wrestling team last night as they swept their two duals against Central DeWitt and Maquoketa in Maquoketa. The Hawks opened the night against DeWitt and quickly fell behind 8-0 after two Saber major decisions but the Hawks quickly rebounded by winning the next five matches which included four falls and took a 27-8 lead. Central DeWitt scored a fall of their own at 160 pounds to make it 27-14, but that is as close as they would get as West Delaware went on to win five of the last six matches while picking up four more pins and won the dual 57-20. In the second dual against Maquoketa the Hawks picked up where they left off as they received falls in four of the first seven matches and went on to win 11 matches on their way to a 64-15 win over the Cardinals, raising their season dual record to 3-0 and 2-0 in the WaMaC east division. West Delaware will return to action tomorrow at the South Winneshiek Invitational in Calmar which can be heard starting at 10:00 am on KMCH.com and the semifinals and finals live on KMCH at around 1:30 with Roger Reed and Jamie Vaske.
