Linn Co. Sheriff Warns Of Phone Scam

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public after receiving phone calls regarding a scam artist who is claiming to be Lt Brian Goodman from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.  He is illegally trying to collect money from the public.

In contacting the number given (319-212-4037), the voicemail message does state that it is from “Lt Brian Goodman from the Linn Co Sheriff’s Office.” However, there is no Lt. Brian Goodman that works for the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

They Linn County Sheriff’s Department says that they do collect unpaid fines and fees and room and board payments for jail confinement, they do so only at the Sheriff’s Office.  The only time they may make contact over the phone is if a person is already on a payment plan and they have fallen behind with their payments.  They then contact them merely to remind them to come to the Sheriff’s Office to resume their existing payment plan.  The department stresses that they do not contact people and demand payment over the phone.

If you receive a phone call from this individual, hang up and do not provide him your financial information.
